Google Drawings: 2nd Grade Mathematics

For my Creative tool of choice I decided to use Google Drawings. I decided to use it to help me teach Mathematics to second graders. This tool is very helpful in taking pictures, and organizing them the way you want. Also to make different types of graphs and  to display information. Something that I thought I could do was draw or paint, but they have set shapes and templates that you can use, also put in pictures. Students can learn how to utilize this tool in organizing graphs and presenting information. They can share it with other students to do group projects, or use it to make graphs and other things. I used it in a way that could either print off the worksheet in class, or I would be able to share the drawing with my students for them to do as homework. It is a wonderful collaborative tool as well, but I chose to use it as a creative tool to encourage students to learn many ways how to display information. 

UEN 2nd grade Mathematics 2.0A standard, which is Operations and Algebraic Thinking. That they should learn how to add and subtract within 20 rather fluently, and see equal groups to start a foundation for multiplying. 

Ed Tech Standard 6 which is to learn how to access information and to learn independently. 

ISTE Digital Citizen, while they are going online to access this worksheet they know the responsibilities of being honest, and being in the digital world.

YouTube: 4th grade FRACTIONS

For my YouTube project I decided to focus on 4th grade Math. I liked YouTube because it was very user friendly, very easy to understand and it is something universal. Since there is so much information on YouTube, it is hard to know which videos to trust and which ones are just fake. Also the level of professionalism is hard to determine. I think that this tool will help me as a student right now to explain concepts better. If there is something I cannot explain, there are lots of tutorials on YouTube to help you understand it better. As well as a good way to turn in homework assignments, if there is a video project due it is good to be familiar with YouTube so that you can upload it there and watch it. As a teacher you would be able to show videos to the class, for free! I think that is the greatest part: that it's free! These videos to explain Math, or any subject for that matter, will be a great asset to the students that I someday teach. If they don't understand the way I explain it, or if they are visual learners, they can go onto YouTube and really see and understand the problem. 

   
UEN Standard 4.NF Strand: Number and operations- Fractions  to help and build the students understanding of equivalence and ordering of fractions. How to build fractions and understanding how to do operations with them. 

Ed-Tech Standard 8 to use technology as resources for self directed learning. 

ISTE Computational Thinker that is to help them identify the problem, and use step by step process to think of solutions, while using technology. 

Google Docs: Letter Home

For my google docs project I wanted to use it for some of it's potential, so I decided to instead of just creating a worksheet, to really utilize the tools it has. I wrote a welcome back to school in English, and then translated the document using the translating tool that Google Docs has. I think this is wonderful because that way if I had students from all over I could cater whatever worksheet or letter that I would need. The translation is not perfect, but the context is there and it would be understandable. I think this is a wonderful tool to teach the students as well, so that they could have international relationships or pen pals. Google Docs has a lot of other really good qualities as well, like the collaborative property, and the fact that it is free!

Infographics: Puedo Hablar

   
For my infographic I used the website Piktochart. An infographic is a good tool to show a lot of information in an way that is pleasing to the eye, and very organized. This tool will make it easy to present multiple ideas about a topic, in a simple way. For a research project it would show all your ideas and findings in a quick and easy way. I feel although it would help students to learn how to communicate well and present ideas. A few cons were that to use most the tools on the website you had to pay, although the very simple and easy tools were free. It was a very user friendly tool and easy to pick up. A big pro is that it is easily accessible for everybody who has a computer, and they can refer to it often.

     
UEN Spanish to fufill the World Language Standard NL:IL to help students recognize a few phrases and words in Spanish. I feel as though this standard really helps students understand more about the world and be able to communicate in their own language more effectively.

ISTE Creative Communicator "I communicate effectively and express myself creatively using different tools, styles, formats and digital media.  All in all this is a great tool to show information.
