Thinglink: English Language Arts

Thinglink is really a great tool to use and I have had a lot of fun using it. Thinglink is a tool that permits you to take any picture, and make it interactive. Something that a student could use and learn from, even without you around. It really is fantastic. It enables us to teach in a way that the student feels as though they are in control, as well as making it fun to learn. It would work great with a smart board, demonstrating it to the whole class as they can interact with the picture. Some of the pros of the tool is the ability to put in your own picture, and position the buttons any way that you would like. It really does help and it's pretty great! Some cons is trying to use technology that is compatible to the program, but once you get it all figured out it runs smoothly. I think that the students would have a fun time exploring Thinglink as well, figuring out how to make small pockets of information and how to share their knowledge with the class.

Pinterest: 6th Grade Science Project

While pondering what type of tool I could use to most help me with this standard, I thought Pinterest would be the best resource. I was not entirely sure how to attempt in helping children understand more about the solar system. Pinterest was a tool to really help me see a variety of projects that others have tested and tried that helped students understand about the solar system and how the planets interact with each other.  There were so many ideas that I could easily look for cheap project ideas, that we could do as an entire class, or even some other ideas for each individual. I feel like teaching this tool to my students will also help them be able to organize their thoughts and ideas. They would be able to find whatever information they need and group it together with that subject in mind. The Students will be able to find very many different ways to make projects, instead of just the few cliche old school designs. A few cons of the tool is that it is very easy to get sidetracked and work on other projects, but a very large pro is how versatile the tool is. You can find from Apple pie recipes to Zoo activities.  

UEN standard of 6th grade standard 3 in science. The students must understand the solar system and be able to identify the planets and different attributes that they have. Also to understand what keeps the solar system together. The different types of models of the solar systems, and flash cards that Pinterest has, will aid in teaching all of these subjects.

Ed tech standard 7, helping the students problem solve together and collaborate. The students will also learn more about working together and using their resources. 


 ISTE standard of knowledge constructor. This means that they can critically select evaluate and synthesize digital resources. This will help them know how to use their digital resources in the future.
